Full House Star, Dave Coulier, Shares That He Has Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
Everyone’s favorite Uncle Joey is opening up about his health battle in a recent interview with PEOPLE. Dave Coulier recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with stage 3 Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. The 65-year-old actor is most famously known for his role as Uncle Joey in the hit sitcom, Full House.
Coulier told PEOPLE that he was diagnosed with the disease in October after dealing with severe swelling in his lymph nodes following an upper respiratory infection. Due to the amount of swelling and intensity, doctors ordered a PET and CT scan plus a biopsy to evaluate further his health, which led to his diagnosis.
“I went from, I got a little bit of a head cold to I have cancer, and it was pretty overwhelming,” said Coulier to PEOPLE. “This has been a really fast roller coaster ride of a journey.”

Since his diagnosis, Coulier, his wife, and his doctors have been working to treat him in the best way possible. “We all kind of put our heads together and said, ‘Okay, where are we going?’ And they had a very specific plan for how they were going to treat this. At that point, my chances of curable went from something low to 90% range. And so that was a great day,” said Coulier.
Now, Coulier is continuing to deal with his diagnosis and taking a more positive outlook on life. He has seen many women in his family also face cancer, so he wants to be as strong and as much of a fighter as the women in his family.
“When I first got the news, I was stunned, of course, because I didn’t expect it, and then reality settled in and I found myself remarkably calm with whatever the outcome was going to be,” he said. “I’ve had an incredible life on a journey with incredible people around me and I’m okay. It does change perspective for sure.”
Coulier became most known to the world when he got the role of Uncle Joey on Full House. He joined his friend, Bob Saget, and was part of the cast from 1987 until its cancellation in 1995. He has also appeared on other TV shows and movies throughout the years and has even done some work as a voice actor. In 2016, Unlce Joey returned to Fuller House, the spin-off, that ran for a few seasons.
