The CMT Music Awards Will Not Air In 2025
The CMT Music Awards will not air in 2024, according to a memo sent from Paramount/CBS regarding several award shows that will be paused for the time being.
Other awards shows included in the pause to “reimagine” the shows are the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Mexico, and the MTV MIAWs, formerly known as the MTV Millennial Awards, an annual ceremony honoring Latin American music.
An internal memo came from the office of Bruce Gillmer, Paramount’s president, music, music talent, programming and events, media networks and chief content officer, music, Paramount+.

The Hollywood Reporter obtained the full Paramount memo:
“Team,
We want to share some news. We are pausing a few events for 2025 as we look to reimagine and optimize our events slate going forward. These include the MTV EMAs, MTV MIAWs, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Mexico, and CMT Music Awards.
Our world-class events remain a key component of Paramount’s music offering as we continue to raise the bar in delivering iconic, unforgettable performances and moments that drive pop culture. We have the best team in the business, and we are grateful for your hard work and dedication in bringing these events to life.”
Kelsea Ballerini was a frequent host of the CMT Music Awards. She hosted solo for the first time in 2024. She made her hosting debut in 2021 alongside Kane Brown, and the two have served as co-hosts in 2022 and 2023.
The CMT Music Awards is a fan-voted awards show for country music videos and television performances. The ceremony launched in 1967 as Music City News Awards; it is the oldest award show that aired under Paramount.
The ceremony originally aired on TNN, prior to its parent company’s acquisition of former rival network Country Music Television in 1991. The first CMT Awards were called the CMT Flameworthy Video Music Awards in 2002.
The show would then air on CMT from 2001 to 2021. Beginning in 2022, the show was broadcast live on CBS.
