War and Treaty Release Fourth Album ‘Plus One’
The powerful duo War and Treaty released their fourth album ‘Plus One’ today, February 14, 2025. Guitar master Billy Strings lends his talent on the song “Drink From Me.”
After earning a 2023 Grammy nomination for “Blank Page,” Michael and Tanya Trotter continue to push boundaries. Their authentic, emotional style blends hard-hitting blues with powerful gospel and raw R&B.
“We see this record as an open invitation to be a part of what we’re doing — it came from wanting to be the hope we believe people need right now, as well as the hope that we need for ourselves,” said Tanya Trotter in a statement.
The album features standouts like “Love Like Whiskey” and “Called You By Your Name.” This work builds on their previous albums, “Healing Tide” and “Hearts Town,” which explored both social divisions and personal struggles.
When Michael looks back at musical influences, he remembers key moments. Those nights when Johnny Cash shared stages with Ray Charles and Mahalia Jackson showed how music breaks down barriers.
Before finding success, they faced tough times. Record deals fell through. They struggled to find housing. Michael battled PTSD until music gave him a way forward.
Their music honors Black musical traditions while creating connections. Rich harmonies blend with honest lyrics, bringing people together.
You can catch War and Treaty performing at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Their next performance is tonight. They’ll also be performing at the Opry 100: A Live Celebration on March 19.
