Carrie Underwood: How She Spent Her Snow Days
When Nashville got several inches of snow last week and the city went into a deep freeze with temperatures near 10 degrees, schools and businesses were closed for a couple of days in and around Music City. Carrie Underwood, like many of us, looked for something to do around the house.
For Carrie, who has proved to be an avid food canner, she took to her kitchen and canned some food for future use for her family. She posted several images of her newly canned meats, fruit, and vegetables on Instagram. She captioned the post, “Spent the snow days preserving…made some VeniMoose stew from some odds and ends meat we had in the freezer…also freeze dried grapes, strawberries, bananas as well as orange segments and orange zest.”
She added, “Now I won’t have to go buy oranges when some recipe calls for orange zest! The freeze dried fruit makes for great school snacks! #PressureCanning #FreezeDrying #Preserving #HarvestRight.”
Her always supportive fans commented on the post, with one writing, “Wow wow wow…so so yummy. Carrie you’re the best!! In each and every way…Great inspiration for us all!!!” Another fan said, “Just a little country girl doing country stuff.” One more fan commented, “The fruit looks so yum!”

Underwood is getting ready to make her debut as a judge on American Idol next month (3/9), just a day before her 42nd birthday. It’s been two years since she released her latest album, Denim and Rhinestones, and there’s a good chance she’s been working on new music for her next album project as she navigates becoming a weekly TV star on Idol.
In my many interviews with Carrie over the years, she often talked about the importance of her albums having a lot to offer to her huge fan base.
She told me not long ago, “I love making an album that I feel like is just full of single potential songs. I love covering as much ground as I possibly can in an album. I, as a fan of music, don’t wanna play an album from start to finish and hear the same song over and over again. I want to be able to go on a ride and explore.”
