Dolly Parton Pays Tribute To Husband With New Song
Just days after her husband Carl Dean’s death, Dolly Parton released a song in tribute to him. The song is called “If You Hadn’t Been There.” She shared the new song on her social media over the weekend.
Dolly posted an old image of herself and her husband, Carl, from the 1960s, which is the cover of the new song. She wrote, “I fell in love with Carl Dean when I was 18 years old. We have spent 60 precious and meaningful years together. Like all great love stories, they never end. They live on in memory and song. He will always be the star of my life story, and I dedicate this song to him. ‘If You Hadn’t Been There.'”
The death of Parton’s husband garnered sympathy from many celebrities and country stars, including Lainey Wilson, actress Reese Witherspoon, and many more.
Dolly posted last Monday night (3/3) that her husband Carl had passed away. No cause of death for the 82-year-old was disclosed. Her post on Instagram, said in part, “Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words cannot do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.”
That post got millions of reactions and comments, including one from Chris Stapleton’s wife, Morgane, who wrote, “We love you.”
Lainey and Martina McBride offered condolences on the post, as did Nashville native Reese Witherspoon, who said, “Sending all my angels to you and your family.”

The chorus of the tender love song is: “I wouldn’t be here / If you hadn’t been there / Holding my hand / Showing you care / You made me dream / More than I dared / And I wouldn’t bе here / If you hadn’t been therе.”
Parton recently posted a message to her Instagram to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and love after the death of her husband, Carl, last Monday (3/3).
She wrote, “This is a love note to family, friends and fans. Thank you for all the messages, cards, and flowers you have sent to pay your respects for the loss of my beloved husband, Carl. I can’t reach out personally to each of you but just know it has meant the world to me. He is in God’s arms now, and I am okay with that. I will always love you. – Dolly”
