Get Up Close and Personal with Lee Brice on ‘Backstage Country’
Tune in to Backstage Country from March 10 to 14 for an exclusive, up-close experience with country music artist Lee Brice! With nine number-one hits, seven ACM Awards, and a CMA Award under his belt, Brice will join Elaina Smith as co-host for the week, diving into everything from his country music journey to his collaborations with Carly Pearce—and even his most popular song on TikTok!
Collaborating with Carly Pearce
“I Hope You’re Happy Now” is Brice’s collaboration with Carly Pearce. Smith asked him how he ended up on the track. Brice chuckled, “Oh, man. Well, it’s pretty simple. I got a call from Enzo [DeVincenzo]. He says, ‘Hey man, you know, Carly Pearce? They’re curious if you want to be on a song with her and they have this song.’ I said, ‘Well, yeah! I love her.’ I think she’s so talented and real. I said, ‘So just send me the song.’”
Brice continued, “I’m in California on my bus, and I won’t be home for, like, three weeks, but I do have a studio on my bus. I said, ‘I can just sing you a vocal and send it to you.’ And they said, okay. So, I sang a vocal on my bus, sent it to him, and of course it’s really, really high.” He chuckled, “Carly goes, ‘Hey, could you maybe try one more time on that one little spot where it doesn’t sound like you’re trying so hard?’ I said, ‘No, I have to try really hard to get to that note.’”
He added, “So yeah, I said, ‘Okay.’ So, I just hit it one more little time, I sent it back there, ‘This is so perfect.’ It’s really cool to think about the vocals right there [was recorded] on my tour bus out in California. That’s what’s on the radio today.”
Lee Brice’s Most-Used Song on TikTok
Smith asked Brice if he watches TikTok videos featuring “One of Them Girls,” which is one of his most used songs on the platform. Brice admitted that he can’t.
He said, “People will send me something on Instagram or Facebook or any of them, TikTok. I say, ‘Sorry guys. I can’t watch it.’ I couldn’t get on my Instagram account. I’ll go do videos, and I’ll send them to [my team] so that they can post it. But a lot of times, I don’t know what’s going on in the world because I just don’t have it.” He also mentioned that his kids aren’t allowed on social media and won’t be until they turn 18.
He added, “I just feel there’s a lot to it. If you don’t use it right, it can be dangerous. Drinking or smoking cigarettes, you have got to be a certain age to do things. So, for me, I don’t get to see the comments. People will send me, they’ll be, ‘Hey, they commented on this.’ So, I do get to see that stuff. I just can’t look it up myself.” Smith responded by noting how rare it is for people to stay off social media, telling Brice, “You’re basically a unicorn.”
