Hi! I’m Danny the intern, and each week I’m going to pull back the curtain to see behind the scenes on The Andie Summers Show!
Hey everyone! Welcome back to Intern Insights, your backstage pass to the most unpredictable show on country radio.
This Monday has been one of the most chaotic shows that I have experienced during my internship. Technology is not always our friend in the studio! A family friend once told me, “It’s all wrong… which makes it all right.” That pretty much sums up radio life and why I love this internship. Every day is different, and chaos is the only thing you can count on.
Behind the Mic: Real Talk About the Team
One question I always get is: “What is everyone like when the mics are off?”
Spoiler alert: Everyone is exactly the same. If anything, we are even more chaotic.
Andie vs. Donnie Beef: Oh, it’s real. If they go a full hour without teasing each other, that’s when I start to get concerned.
Shannon’s Love Life Updates: Every day! It’s our in-studio soap opera, and we’re all very invested.
Jeff Singing the Ten-Minute Tune: Constantly. I should start keeping track of how many times he hums it per day.
Intern Quote(s) of the Week
I know I promised one quote, but Donnie’s quotes are… memorable.
- “She looks like she could pay taxes.”
Context: Jeff and Donnie were looking at a photo of McKinley by the pool. Donnie, stunned by how grown up she looked, dropped this gem. Cue 2 seconds of silence, followed by explosive laughter.
- “With quads like that, what do you expect?”
Context: In a true “guy moment,” Jeff, Donnie, and I spotted a pipe on the ceiling. We had to see if we could touch it. We all succeeded, but my vertical jump was too impressive for Donnie to process. So naturally, he blamed the soccer legs.
I’m pretty sure I need to start carrying a notebook just to keep up with the things said in this studio.
We filmed a new video today that I think you all will enjoy on our social media platforms! I know everyone in the studio (maybe besides one person) enjoyed filming the video.
Behind the scenes (below) you can see that Andie was actually nervous about hitting Donnie below the belt, but Donnie was committed to the bit.
