We've put together a list of screen-free activities to get your kids moving, making, exploring, and using their imagination this summer. These ideas will give them the chance to use their brains, their hands, and rediscover how great it feels to just play.

Summer used to mean bike rides with friends, running through sprinklers, and hanging out until the streetlights came on. Now? It feels like we’re in a never-ending battle with screens. If you’ve heard “I’m bored” one too many times—and you're this close to pulling your hair out, you’re not alone.

Rainy Day Screen-Free Activities

  • Make Homemade Popsicles
    • Nothing says summer like popsicles! What makes a great popsicle? The only way to find the perfect recipe is to try and try again. Juice? Sure! Soda? Mmmm, I don't know. Pudding? Now we're talking!
  • Build the Ultimate Fort
    • Forts are a great way to get the creative juices flowing in the summer! What will you use to make the walls? How will you keep them standing? If the weather permits, build a fort outside and sleep under the stars!
  • Bake Cookies From Scratch!
    • Everybody loves cookies, and anyone can make them from a tube or a brick. Baking cookies from scratch will give your kiddos a great lesson in baking and chemistry!
  • Plant a Mini Garden
    • Teaching your kiddos about gardening is a hands-on way to learn about healthy eating, the environment, and where food really comes from. On a rainy day, you can make little potted gardens. Do it in the garage if you're afraid of wrecking your house.
  • Make a Time Capsule
    • What a fun way to get the kids thinking about what is going on in the world, their neighborhood, or just their own lives this summer. Everyone gets to add a few items to the time capsule to be opened in 10 years.

This summer, let’s trade pixels for playtime. Giving your kids a break from screens isn’t just about limiting tech, it’s about opening the door to imagination, movement, laughter, and real connection. So unplug, step outside, and make this a summer they’ll never forget. The kind of summer filled with sunshine, scraped knees, and stories that don’t need Wi-Fi to be worth telling.
