The late Toby Keith was still alive to see his daughter, Krystal Keith, make her Grand Ole Opry debut on July 9, 2014. Chris Stapleton opened for a famous rock group on this day, and there were lots of fun country music festivals on July 9.

Breakthrough Hits and Milestones

The following were milestones for the country music industry:

  • 2014: The late country singer Toby Keith's daughter, Krystal Keith, made her debut performance at the Grand Ole Opry on July 9. Before Toby died in 2024, Krystal had been on tour with her father for his Shut Up and Hold On Tour.
  • 2016: In a bizarre cross-genre performance, husky-voiced country singer Chris Stapleton opened for heavy rock group Guns N' Roses at the Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. Both rock and roll and country music fans appreciated Stapleton's voice and style as well as the rocking atmosphere of Guns N' Roses.
  • 2018: Miranda Lambert became the 15th artist-in-residence at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Lambert was the youngest star to achieve this honor.

Cultural Milestones

From an all-female tour to a huge benefit/tribute, these cultural events happened on July 9:

  • 2010: The Lilith Fair tour was a tour of all-female artists that ran for two summers in 1997 and 1998. In 2010, the tour was revised with Miranda Lambert performing at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • 2014: Country music stars Jessi Colter, Jamey Johnson, and Shooter Jennings performed a musical tribute to Waylon Jennings and Hank Cochran at Nashville's Marathon Motor Works on July 9. This was a benefit concert called A Night Of Influence Celebrating Waylon Jennings & Hank Cochran, which raised money for the Nikki Mitchell Foundation.

Notable Recordings and Performances

Country music festivals dominated on July 9, including:

  • 2021: The legendary Alan Jackson took the stage at the Country Concert music festival in Fort Laramie, Ohio, on July 9. Other headliners for this event included Lorrie Morgan, Justin Moore, and Riley Green.
  • 2022: The audience at the Country Boom music festival in West Salem, Wisconsin, enjoyed seeing their favorite performers live. Headliners at this festival included the Brothers Osborne, Walker Hayes, and Caylee Hammack. Cooper Alan and Tyler Braden also performed.
  • 2022: In Rhinelander, Wisconsin, Sam Hunt, Russel Dickerson, and Clay Walker headlined the Hodag Country Festival. Fans also enjoy seeing Callista Clark and Jo Dee Messina at this festival.

Industry Changes and Challenges

From a birth to show cancellations, these were country music industry changes and challenges for July 9:

  • 2018: The frontman for the Eli Young Band, Mike Eli, and his wife, Kacey, welcomed their son Kash Eli on July 9. The couple also has a daughter, Kline Olivia.
  • 2021: On July 9, organizers of Dierks Bentley's Seven Peaks Music Festival in Buena Vista, Colorado, scheduled for September, announced they were cancelling the event because of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

The pandemic certainly changed the world, and many shows were cancelled or rescheduled, like Dierks Bentley's. It was sweet to see Mike Eli and his wife welcome a baby to their home, and fans enjoyed singing and dancing to country music stars at music festivals across the United States on July 9.
