With the college fall semester coming up, now is the perfect time to talk about some must-have items for college students.
Move-in day might still feel far away, but trust me, it’ll be here before you know it.
My college experience has been anything but one-size-fits-all. As I’ve mentioned before, I attend Immaculata University and am preparing to graduate a semester early. I transferred from another school, and throughout my journey, I’ve lived in just about every housing setup imaginable: a triple, a double, a single dorm room, even an off-campus apartment. So when I say I’ve been there, I mean it.
That said, there are a handful of items that have truly helped me survive—and honestly, thrive—during college life. From late-night study sessions to early morning classes, these essentials made all the difference.
Here Are My College Must-Haves:
- Mattress Topper: A dorm bed without one is like sleeping on a gym floor.
- Under-Bed Storage Bins: Whether hiding snacks or shoes, these save space.
- Shower Shoes: Non-negotiable. Just trust me.
- Shower Caddy: No one wants to juggle shampoo, body wash, and a towel down the hall.
- Power Strip: There are never enough outlets.
- Long Phone Charger: Dorm outlets are never where you want them to be.
- Plastic Utensils: You will forget to grab a fork at least once, so be ready.
- Umbrella: Turning in a soggy paper because your backpack got soaked is not fun.
- Drying Rack: Your favorite shirt will thank you when it doesn't shrink.
- Lamp: For those late-night study grinds when your roommate's already asleep.
- Headphones / Earplugs: Because dorm walls are basically paper.
- Fan: Needed in August... and weirdly still in December.
These are some of my most trusted, can’t-live-without-them college items. Whether you’re heading into your first year or your final semester, these things can really make a difference in your daily life on campus.
