Summer reading is the worst thing for a kid to do during their summer break (at least they feel that way when assigned with it). But little did we know as parents that it is actually worse for us because we have to bother them for three months to start only for them to open the book the weekend before school.
I was tasked to sing this week's Ten Minute Tune about summer reading because all parents have to deal with it now. I took the song "This Heart" by Corey Kent to make this Ten Minute Tune come true.

Wish I could just skim it, make my teacher believe it

Damn this book I almost said just forget it
Damn this quiz so they know that I read it
I could just spark notes, but then they might catch me
I’ll do anything so I avoid reading
Now every night I am just staying up
My mom says I procrastinate way too much!
My eyes they water every single night
If you ask me summer reading ain’t right
But damn this book, mm-hmm
How Did Ten Minute Tune Start?
One could argue that I have been singing these types of songs my entire life. I used to love listening to the radio in the car, changing the lyrics to my favorites songs in my head to make them sound funny. Little did I know I would make a career out of this little hobby.
I grew up a theater kid, performing at stage since I was 10 years old. So singing and performing has always been something that I've loved to do. I took piano lessons since the age of six years old and was heavily involved in choir as well. When I got to college, I was a founding member of the a cappella group, Otto Tunes, on the campus of Syracuse University!
It took us a semester to become an official student organization on campus. Here was our FIRST performance after becoming official. It’s Gavin DeGraw’s “Not Over You.”
