Intern Insights: Early Mornings
I currently have it wrapped around one of the pillars of my bed frame so it’ll cause a very obnoxious sound when the alarm goes off.

My earliest class has always been at 9:30 am. I get to wake up around 7, get ready, and leave my house around 8:30 to drive to campus. I have had one of the most desirable college schedules.
While I am extremely grateful and ecstatic to be interning at The Andie Summer’s Show, I have to be at the radio station by 7:30 am, and I live close to an hour away. I haven't had to wake up around 5 am since high school. Looking back in time, a teenager should not be waking up that early for school, but I digress. However, I am lucky not have to arrive at the same time as the rest of the team, which is much earlier! With that being said, I am going to walk you through the craziness that is my 5 am mornings.
I am a chronic oversleeper. I have to set multiple alarms with varying sound effects. My mom also had to buy me an alarm clock that has a piece to shake your bed in the morning. However, I don’t put it under my bed; I currently have it wrapped around one of the pillars of my bed frame so it’ll cause a very obnoxious sound when the alarm goes off. My four alarms on my phone and my obnoxious alarm clock all go off between 5 am and 5:30 am.
Most mornings when my alarm goes off, I pick up my phone, turn the alarm off, and wait for the next one to convince me to leave my warm bed and go into the current 30-degree weather. I always go straight to the bathroom to do my hair and makeup first. My makeup routine quite literally takes me three minutes because I only use mascara. I do not have the time or patience to do any more than that in the mornings, but I’m okay with that.
When I finish getting ready for the day, I grab my chihuahua off my bed because he refuses to leave my bed and follow me out of my room, which I can relate to. He and I go downstairs, he uses the bathroom, then I walk outside to complete darkness. I start my car and immediately drive to get coffee. I could not imagine waking up at any time in the early morning without caffeine. Coffee safely secured in my cup holder, I start heading over to the station!
Being an intern on the show has caused me to relearn a lot about my morning habits and how to alter them to ensure I am getting where I need to be, I’m arriving on time, etc. Just as I thought my internship couldn’t get any better, Andie and the team have provided me with another positive perspective as I prepare for graduation and getting a full-time job!
